Reclaimed Bloom – Pretty In Pink
Sometimes we simply need permission to enjoy beauty.
Pretty In Pink began as an exploration of pink itself. Not because it had to represent anything profound, but because sometimes colour alone can bring joy. It was about reconnecting with that almost childlike delight that pink can evoke while also embracing the quiet confidence that comes with age and experience.
Throughout this collection I chose to photograph roses that were no longer at their perfect peak. Their petals had softened, curled and begun to fade, yet they still held an undeniable beauty. Rather than hiding those signs of time, I wanted to celebrate them. For me, these blooms became a gentle reminder that femininity doesn't lose its beauty as it journeys through life, it simply changes its shape.
Each artwork is created using my own photographs alongside handcrafted prints made specifically for this series, carefully scanned and layered through the intuitive digital process I have been developing for more than a decade. That digital practice is built upon much earlier experimentation with layered imagery during my years working in black and white darkrooms and commercial photographic print labs in the early 1990s.
The result is a collection where photography meets mixed media, blending texture, colour and form into works that feel both familiar and dreamlike. Soft pinks become a place of comfort, while the weathered roses offer quiet reminders that joy, tenderness and strength are never limited by age.
Whether viewed individually or as a complete collection, Pretty In Pink invites you to pause for a moment and simply enjoy beauty in all its wonderfully imperfect forms.
